This is a very interesting piece and Im sure would interest every football fan in the country, just because as england fans we have seen it happen, and through watching premiership games we know that pre match handshakes are common as well as players using this to create controversy. This piece from the Birmingham mail is from sports writer Tom Ross giving his opinion.

The Tom Ross Column: Ditch the handshakes and bring in goal-line technology

A WEEK of football that saw two issues once again raise their heads.

The first is the ridiculous charade of players shaking hands before the kick-off.

Everyone knows it’s a nonsense and should be scrapped – something the Birmingham Mail was telling you last February.

The second issue is that of goal-line technology.

Everton were robbed of two points against Newcastle on Monday night when they had the ball over the line but the referee ruled it wasn’t a goal.

FIFA will use the technology in December’s World Club Cup final, which involves Champions League winners Chelsea.

The FA say the technology could be used later this season or, at the latest, next season.

They expect the equipment to be approved and installed in stadiums by December and after that they will need a period of time to test it in situ.

It is long overdue and should have been installed years ago.

However, it’s better late than never and it will end all the “was it, wasn’t it over the line?’’ arguments and ensure all teams get a fair deal.

Now i agree with him on both debates (for once) I hope we get goaline technology ASAP because as you can see every time this happens it turns into national uproar and the FA then have to explain themselves why it hasn't happened earlier, so it would ease the pressure off of the FA, the same with the pre match handshake, is there any need for it, at the moment it is used by players to vent show there opinion of the other player without getting any type of fine or disciplinary action taken. Unfortunately this handshake business is now an out of date FA idea that in my opinion needs to be scrapped and maybe looked over for any other idea that can be put in place as a direct replacement, also take into account any way to avoid any more controvery.
