Doing something different on this blog, as a favour for a mate that i know very well.
As you know I am a villa fanatic living in Dorset, so as you can probably tell i cannot attend many villa games during the season due to work commitments as well as cost to travel the distance.
Therefore I have to find some other way of finding the same sort of adrenaline that i get from the atmosphere at villa park, I tried to watch the local speedway in poole in the form of the mighty poole pirates which you would think would be perfect but as good as the team is, it just doesn't recreate the same atmosphere. So i tried my local football team which was AFC Bournemouth, for anyone who doesnt know much they are a professional football team who play in league 1 at the Goldsands stadium and have a very rich russian co owner in charge, Harry Redknapp and Tony Pulis made there managerial names at this club and you have probably seen the recent headlines that old arry had returned as a club advisor. Anyway i went to my first game 2 years ago and although they are a league 1 team with a stadium that rarely fills over 7000 the atmosphere and fans were something to behold. That year they finished 6th when favourited for relegation and just missed out on winning the playoffs. Flashforward to the present day and they are lying at the bottom half of the table and underachieving as they have a rich russian owner and a squad of around 35 players who are on high wages and not performing.
Now I could easily say that its the players fault but on this occasion it isn't, thats because this club has just lost one of the best managers it has had for a long time and have turned to Paul Groves, a manager that relagated grimsby, failed as a coach at portsmouth and plays defensive tactics (similar to you know who). The supporters didn't want him from day 1 (again similar to you know who) and his record is least than impressive. I went to the Portsmouth FC v AFC Bournemouth opening game and watched them just get a 1-1 draw against a team that just managed to get a starting 11 together. As you can expect the supporters have turned on the manager and calling for his head, now i would be open to this after all its what we did with you know who but this is different, with you know who he had a season and the board then realised there mistake and got rid of him, they then signed what looks like an absolute gem. Where as this board will eventually sack them after they have given them a new 3 year contract at the start of the new year, this is after they have got the club in the position of propping up table in 24th place with no wins.
So they then promote another coach with no managerial experience and give him a 3 year contract, this a club with a rich russian oil billionaire as a co owner. I am not blaming him as when he bought the 50% of the club he wanted to just be the money man and not have anything to do with running the club as he doesn't have the footballing knowledge, thats fair enough but the person who is in charge doesn't have a clue either!!! The person in question is Eddie Mitchell, he is the owner of a construction firm Seven developments. Sorry rephrase that... was the owner as Seven developments went bankrupt a few months back due to bad ownership. So this man is in charge of AFC Bournemouth and as you are probably aware he is not many fans favourite owner, he has told fans at a fans forum if they don't like the defensive, boring football produced then they can go and support there bitter rivals Southampton.... I'm sure many of them have done so. He has also drunkenly appeared on the pitch after a 3-0 loss to Chesterfield and offered to fight angry and disgruntled north stand faithfuls (brilliant way to advertise the club) and finally called up the local radio station and shouting drunken foul mouthed abuse at the presenter to the point they cut him off, i know this because i was driving back home listening to it (very amusing). Many supporters have voiced there concerns of him in charge and called for him to sell up (me included) so my friend has created a facebook page covering this subject he has not go many likes yet so I have offered to help him get more views, so please as fans who have had similar problems with the managerment of our club over the years click on the link and like his page.
